Cardiff Web Scene

Welcome the Cardiff Web Scene community website. Just to help us get to know each other a little bit better I thought that this would be a good place for member to introduce themselves and say a little bit about what they do. I'll start...

Hello I'm Claire, Account Manager for Box UK, a fantastic web software development agency in Cardiff. We work on really cool sites for cool companies (such as tombraider.com, thinkbox.tv and explore.ordnancesurvey.co.uk) and I also help organise the Cardiff Web Scene Meet ups so if you've got any comments, questions or suggestions for the meet ups please give me a shout!

Hi, I'm James.

In the last year I've:
Moved from Cardiff to Bridgend (where it's really at :) ).
Become a father.
Resigned from a web app developer role near Blackwood.
Started a new job as a Senior Analyst Programmer at The Royal Mint in Llantrisant.

Recently I've:
Missed being a web app developer (Crystal Reports is killing me slowly).
Given some serious consideration to web dev freelancing...
...realised my design skills suck and that I need to do something about it.
Added the CWS Meet-Up #4 to my calendar.
Killed a whole bunch of ants that live behind my boiler.

Hello all

I'm Kevin, one of the in-house development team at the University of Glamorgan. We wrestle with a variety of the University's sites and try to keep improving.

Have missed the previous meet ups but with try to get to the next one. It's nice to see people putting the effort in to creating a web dev community. It'll be good to emerge blinking from the silo!

Hi I am James,

I am currently a freelance web designer (mostly doing HTML/CSS), who moved to Cardiff about a year ago. I'm working on a variety of things at the moment, mostly from an agency in the US.

I have missed all the previous meetups for various reason, but really hoping to make it to the next one.

Hi, I'm Paula, Sales and Marketing Manager for Imaginet and actually not really a web talent at all... can I still come to the party?

Hi Paula

You are more than welcome to come to our party! Hopefully everyone will be able to make it to the next meet-up as it would be great to say hello in person!

Hello there, I'm John, lead web developer at Legal & General. Just found this via facebook. We're probably one of the secrets of Cardiff web development - there's about 40 e-commerce folk here writing fancy financial webapps. More importantly we were one of the first FTSE companies to go all XHMTL-y and tableless back in the day (2004, before even the first @media!). And doing AJAX by hand before JQuery and all that library stuff. We were the BSI reference case for accessibility too.

Recently been much more enterprisey/J2EE/XML, but starting to miss the more web oriented stuff. I'll see if we can get some of us to a meet up.

Hi,

I'm Tony, one of the developers in the Cardiff office of Precedent. Currently we're working on RSPCA, British Heart Foundation, Intellectual Property office, Age Concern and CrimeStoppers. Some of us are going to try and make it along to the meet up, and well done for making this, there's been a Bristol one for years

Tony

Hi all,

I'm Angus, a web developer at Coleg Glan Hafren.

I mainly work on internal stuff, although I am currently redeveloping the college website, which will be going live within the next month hopefully.
